Season 5 of This Is Us kicked off last night with a 2-parter called “Forty”. In it, we found the Pearsons still very close to the aftermath of last season’s explosive finale and eventually make our way to the traditional celebration of Kevin, Kate, and Randall’s birthday. A lot has changed in the -real- world since our last visit with the Big 3 and the show’s writers have decided to let those real-world issues take hold of the show’s narrative.
