I’m willing to bet that carpenter Josef stayed in Montana near the Dutton’s. The clue being that the iconic white barn from Yellowstone has an Eastern European double gambrel roof design. Often called a Dutch or German double gambrel. That knowledge wouldn’t have come from the Dutton’s Tennessee or Irish roots.

I also think that modern day John Dutton’s wish is that his land remain in tact, undeveloped and used by future Dutton descendants. Tate will carry that line. And Tate is half Crow. So John’s only option to prevent corporate interest interfering is to sell the land to the tribe. Tate could replace Rainwater as Chief in the future and even if he doesn’t, Dutton descendants will be part of the tribe and remain on the land. I’m from Oklahoma, so I know about federal Indian reservations — and that land is as protected as National Parks.
